When Adam was born on November 4 2008 he was blue and as soon as he cried he started to turn pink. But a few hours after birth I noticed that he was breathing really fast and I started to get scared I called the nurse in she said that he was fine. Which I knew he was not because my other 2 children never done this. They sent us home after 24 hours and we had to follow up with the pediatrician in a week. When I did he said that he heard a heart murmur and wanted an echo done at the hospital and for me not to worry. Well we scheduled the echo and finally got in and the lady was doing the echo and she turned white I asked her what was wrong and she said she had to get someone else to come in and see if he could get better pictures. Well when he came in and tried he said to stay here that he had to call the doctor. Well the doctor talked to me on the phone and said do not leave the hospital to go straight the ER that Adam had something wrong with his heart and that he was going to be life flighted to the Cleveland clinic. When we arrived at 9 p.m. we could not even get in the room with Adam due to all the doctors by him I was really scared. They preformed their own echo and they waited until the morning to tell what us what was wrong. Then that morning the doctors finally told us that our son had a broken heart he had tricuspid atersia, 2 wholes in his heart which are called asd, vsd and transposition of the greater arteries and that he would need 3 open heart surgery. I remember when he was 3 months old I noticed that he was panting like a dog but he was not blue and he was sweating I called his doctor to get him in and he seen him when we got there and said that he was just sick and would be okay. I was not satisfied with that answer and called his cardiologist and told him what was going on and he said to bring Adam to see him right now. So when we got there they already had a room waiting and he was seen and we were told that he was in congestive heart failure. I was so mad that the doctor said nothing was wrong but he was sick I called that doctor back and yelled at him. I found a new doctor who knows about his heart. When Adam was 6 months old he had his first open heart surgery which was to put a band around his lung artery because his lungs was getting to much blood. After about a week we was sent home. It was hard handing him over and seeing him afterwards. He was doing well until he was 2 years old and his cardiologist said that Adam needed his second surgery a Glenn shunt. It was really hard walking with him in the OR and being by his side holding his little hand until he was put to sleep. I remember the nurse put me in a wheel chair and took me to the waiting room he is a mommy's boy. When we got to see him afterwards the surgeon Dr. Mavroudis was in there with him and he told us that his blood pressure was really high and I remember that he stayed at least 2 hours with him. I was really worried and he said that it happens like this sometimes. Adam was released after 5 days. I asked the cardiologist when will his next open heart be and he told me when Adam is 4 to 6 years old. I am so thankful for my mother because she has been there with me the whole way. Especially when she would stay the night with me at the hospital after the surgeries when my husband had to work. She would stay until Adam was moved out of the PICU. I am so thankful that god gave me Adam and I will continue to fight with him until whenever.

Adam has been doing so good for so long. Please pray for him he needs a sedated EKG and EEG because they think that his hole in the heart is closing. Please pray that he does well with the sedation and that everything is good with his heart. I do not know for sure when this is supposed to happen they are supposed to call me with info since its an or procedure.

Hello everyone! Adam is doing wonderful he is going to start preschool in fall. I am freaking out about that because I am scared to leave him. Will the teachers know when he starts to get out of breath to sit him down and give him something to drink before he starts turning blue? That is my biggest fear! His cardiologist seems not fazed by my reaction. If any has advise I would really appreciate. I am going back to school in fall for a pediatric cardiology nurse. If anyone has went back to school when you have a heart baby at home is it hard any advice will be good.

Adam is very healthy. He went to the cardiologist appointment they do not want to see him again for 6 months and they took him off of all his meds. I have noticed when he runs and plays he is out of breath has this happened to anyone else. If so what can I do to prevent him from getting out of breath?

Hi everyone! Does any one have suggestions on how to get Adam off the pacifier and how to make him sleep in his own bed all night without coming in to mine. Just can't sleep with him no more he is a bed hog and will kick you out if he can. Every time I ask the doctor's they tell me he still needs it is soothes him but he is now 2 years old and needs to come off.

Teeth Removal

Adam did really good with his 4 front teeth being removed. He is upset right now because he can not drink from a sippy cup. O well I guess its a good time to get him off of them now. The dentist said there is nothing that anyone can do with the teeth when the child is on pediasure. No matter how much you brush them it still will cause the teeth to decay.

I have been really busy after mother's day. Especially with summer and doctors appointments. I hope all is going well with our little heart friends. I have a question has anyone had this problem with pediasure making the child's front teeth bad. The only reason I asked is because Adam has to get his 4 front teeth pulled they said it was from pediasure. They are not going to put him to sleep they are going to numb his mouth. Poor little guy.

Hi Everyone! I am having a problem with Adam eating now. Before the open heart surgery he had a very good appetite. But now after the surgery he is refusing to eat. Has anyone had this problem and if so what did you do to get them to eat? He only weights 21 lbs and 12 oz I am scared of him losing more weight that he can not afford to lose.

We all were scared because his blood pressure was really high and they would not let him come home without it lower. I was really scared to bring him home with his high blood pressure. Hello and Sorry for not updating the laptop batteries died. Well Adam came through like a champ. The surgery took 9 hours because the Dr. had done 4 things to his heart. He just got off of the vent today. He is doing good. They are worried a little because his pulse ox is not high it is in the high 60's to low 70's. Before the heart surgery it was in the 80's. I will upload pictures when I get home. Thank you all for your prayers and support. They were felt.

Hello Everyone! Tomorrow is Adam's big surgery day. Please pray that god would keep him safe during the surgery and that he has a safe recovery. Please also pray for me and my family. I need strength to walk him into the surgery room and let them put him to sleep. I am so scared I can't even sleep now. Does anyone have any suggestion on how to clean Adam's incision after surgery. I think it might be impossible to clean it because when I try to get him dressed he runs away. Do I give him a bath in the tub or sponge bath? Please help.

Big Boy

Little Adam likes to eat at the table instead of his highchair. He refuses to eat if we put him in there. I am having a problem with him choking on his food even though it is cut up really small. Has anyone had this problem with their children if so what did you do.? My son Justin had his speech therapist here at home and Little Adam started choking and she had to get it dislodged. Hello Everyone! I just got the call that his heart catherization is April 6th. The procedure is going to take 2 to 3 hours. This time it is longer than when he was 2 months old. I am praying that everything will go well. Will update when I get the call for the open heart surgery.

Hello Everyone! Thank you for praying for Adam. The heart doctor said that his echo and EKG looked good today. He said that he is sorry for scaring me about Adam going into respiratory distress. But he pushed up his surgery month though instead of May or June it will be in April. I am waiting for a call to find out what date. He has to have a heart cath first then 1 week later his open heart surgery. But here is some pictures I took.

Hi Everyone! I just got off the phone with Adam's cardiologist. He wants to see Adam Friday instead of the 15th of this month. He thinks that he is going into respiratory distress. Due to the band they have on his pulmonary artery. Please pray that he will not go into respiratory distress and that he does really well until Friday. I am so scared right now that I do not think that I am going to sleep tonight.

I finally got my camera fixed. A lady made this blanket for him. She does blankets in kind of thing that your child likes. It is for special children that has health problems like a CHD or any other problems. She does it for free in her son's memory since he has all kinds of problems. The website is on my page on the side. I think that it takes someone to raise a special child regardless what is wrong with the child. Now a days the doctors just say to terminate the pregnancy because there is something wrong with the child and his standards that the child may not live. But they are not God and only he knows if the child will live or die. I feel like just because the child has Special need or their bodies are made different does not mean any thing at all. They should be treated like a normal child regardless. I understand that there are certain limitations that they can't do.

Question for anyone! Has any one had a child with open heart surgery in the summer time? Is it hard for them not to scratch the wound and do they hurt when the sweat gets in to the healing wound. How did you keep it dry while it was healing. Because the cardiologist told me the last time that he would have his surgery in May or June. This is before they told me to come sooner to see them.

I just recieved a phone call from his cardiologist. He wants to see him sooner than April. He want to see him in March. I am really scared because when I took Adam to his pediatrican his pulse ox was in the low 70s which is not like him. Please send some prayers up for him.

Hi everyone! The eye doctor said that his eyes were OK but we have to go back in June. To decide if they are going to put a patch on his eye for 1 to 2 hours a day.

Sorry I have not posted in a while. Little Adam is getting his back teeth in and he is so cranky. Does anyone have a suggestion about what I can do to help him with the pain other than oral gel. He can not seem to get the frozen wash cloth in the back of his mouth. :(

Snow Snow and more Snow! I wish it just quite! Adam is sick right now :( I think he might be getting his back teeth in. Poor baby I can not give him oral gel for teething. That's the bad part of his teething. But my mother gave me a suggestion to put apple juice on a wash cloth and freeze it than give it to him so I am going to try that! I hope it helps. Please keep Little Logan and Little Derrick in your prayers since they will be having open heart surgery real soon!

Adam started to take a couple of steps. I was so excited about that until he fell down and got his little face on the floor. His nose started bleeding I think I cried more than he did. I guess I am a big baby! lol But after I got him cleaned he got up and took a few more steps.

Wow it snowed so hard here in Ohio that we are snowed in. I think when we are able to get out that I might take Adam and the other two kids sledding. Since it's Adam's first snow that he saw.

Adam went to the cardiologist today. The doctor said that he looked really well. He is doing so good that the doctor said he will have his open heart surgery (Glenn shunt) in May or June of 2010. The doctor does not want to see him again until March.

Adam had this weird thing going on with his eye it was moving really fast back and forward. So I called the pediatrician and he told me to bring him straight in that it might be a seizure. So I took him straight there and thankfully that it was not. He told me to make Adam a eye doctor appointment. So I did and the doctor said he had nystagmus and that he is real near sighted. Though he does not think that it was from his heart condition or the surgery. Thank goodness for that!

Adam had his surgery today they put a band around his pulmonary artery. He came out of surgery good. The surgeon said that when they put him to sleep and went to put the IV in his neck he woke up and picked his neck up and was just looking around. So they got pretty scared and had to give him more meds to make him go to sleep.

Well Adam did not have his surgery today. He got sick 5 days before surgery he had RSV. We took him to the local emergency room and they put him on oxygen which he is not supposed to be on. Because he is a mixer what that means his blue blood mixes with his red blood. When they tested him for staph infection before his surgery they found out that he got it from the local emergency room that I took him to.

Adam was healthy up until now. He started to swell up and was having a hard time breathing. So I took him to the pediatrician and the nurse practitioner looked at him and listened to his heart and lungs and said there is nothing wrong with him. I did not believe this so I called his cardiologist and told him what was going on. The cardiologist which his name is Dr. Qureshia told me to bring Adam to him so he can look at him. Well when we got there one look and he said to take him to the Cleveland Clinic. He did not listen to him he said that Adam was in congestive heart failure. So he had to get lasix to get the swelling down. When that happened Dr. Qureshia said he needed to do a heart cath on Adam. So they did the heart cath and he had to much blood going into his lungs and that his ASD was closing up so they had to open that up. We spent the next week in the hospital. They scheduled his surgery 1 week later.

We finally got to the clinic because no one could ride with him because they had the pilot 3 nurses and a doctor. But when we got there we could not even get into the room with him do to so many doctors, residents, nurses. They asked if we knew any thing or did they tell us anything about him we said no. So they said that they would do there own test and let us know what's wrong. They did the tests that night and said that he has tricuspid atersia (meaning that his left side of his heart is small) and that he only has 3 chambers instead of 4, he also has tga (transposition of the great arteries), VSD (ventricular septal defect), ASD (atrial septal defect). That he would have to have 3 stages of surgery. But since he is doing so good they will hold off on the first surgery until he is 4-6 months old.

I took Adam to the ehocardiagram this morning and before we got there I started to cry because something told me this was more serious than they were saying. Well the technian started the echo and she left the room she went to get another technian. They proceeded to look at the echo and do the echo while the whole time she had a scared look on her face. I asked her if everything was alright and all she could say was ummmm...ummm.ummm I have to call the pediatrican right away. So she left to call the pediatrican and came back and said that he wanted to talk to me. So I went to talk to him and he said there is something wrong with your babies heart do not leave the hospital go straight to the er and we are going to ship him out to the Cleveland Clinic. Well we waited for 4 more hours in the ER because they did not know what to do. Finally they called lifeflight to come get him. So 20 minutes later lifeflight landed and came got him. I was so scared.

Adam had his one week check up and he was still breathing fast and sometimes turning blue. I mentioned this to his pediatrician and he checked him out and then listened to his heart and told me that he had a heart murmur. That not to worry that sometimes babies has this and he was not worrying about it. But something told me to worry! So he schedule a ecocardiagram for 1 week later at the hospital.

Well I had my son Adam at 11:00 pm. It was a smooth dilivery but he did not cry for at least 2 minutes. I kept asking is he okay because I could not see him they were working on him to get him to breath. Finally they said yes he is okay then he started to cry I felt so good to know he was okay. Later that night he got to sleep in my room I noticed he was breathing fast and turning blue. So I called the nurse and she said it was normal. Which I knew it was not because I have two kids already and they did not do any of that. So they let him come home 24 hours later. He was still breathing fast and turning blue sometimes.

I went for my sonogram and the technician saw something wrong with my baby's heart. She told me to go use the restroom and told the OB that she saw something wrong the baby did not have a Fourth chamber and the left side of his heart was real small. So the OB told me to let the radiologist read the report and if he says there is something wrong than I would have to go to Metro and get an better look. Well I was so scared and I prayed and prayed that nothing is wrong with my baby boy. I went to the doctor's the next month and he said that the baby's heart was good and nothing was wrong so i was so happy.
